Users should manually check for updates by choosing Help > Check for Updates. Adobe Reader users on Windows also can get the latest version here; Mac users from, here.
As an alternative to Adobe product, you might consider Sumatra PDF or Foxit Reader – both of which are lighter than Adobe Reader.
