We had a fairly busy Patch Tuesday and we’re learning of even more patches and updates that came out yesterday, so the message is ‘Carry On Updating’.
If you don’t know the work of the team who worked on the ‘Carry On’ franchise of files from the 60’s and 70’s, then either we are showing our age, or you are just too young. We suggest you go and stream them!
Anyway – back to our updates… the two bigs ones we know of so far are: Adobe Flash and Mozilla Firefox.
Firefox Update: Version 50.1.0
Open Firefox – click the three-bar icon to open the menus, then select ?
(Help Menu) and then click on About Firefox
:
After the update applies, you should be prompted to ‘Restart Firefox’ – this step will then re-open all your windows to the same places you were before you restarted. After the restart, you should be at Firefox 50.1.0:
This release of Firefox includes a few Firefox Security Patches, so it should be applied a soon as possible.
Flash Update: December 2016
An equally important update this week was to Adobe Flash. If you have Windows 10, Flash player for Microsoft browsers should be included in your windows updates that you ran yesterday – or today if you forgot.
If you have third-party browsers, such as Firefox or Chrome, you might have a standalone Flash installation and we recommend you run an update for Flash soon – as in – today. Better still – right now.
December 13, 2016
In today’s scheduled release, we’ve updated Flash Player and AIR with important bug fixes, security updates, and new features.
How to update Flash Player
Current Flash Player customers who have enrolled in the “Allow Adobe to install updates (recommended)” update mechanism will be automatically updated to the latest version of Flash Player within 24 hours after release.
Users who have selected “Notify me to install updates” will receive an update notification dialog within 7 days from release date. Please note that Windows users will need to restart their system or log out and in to activate the update notification dialog.
The latest version of Flash Player can always be downloaded and installed by simply visiting https://get.adobe.com/flashplayer
Customers using Google Chrome or Windows 8.x/10 Internet Explorer or Microsoft Edge will receive updates through the Google and Microsoft update mechanisms.
If you took our advice on using Ninite.com to update your flash, just run your saved Ninite installer and you should get the latest Flash Update. Unfortunately, the good folks at Ninite have removed Adobe Flash from their list of installers, but we have an installer built that updates Adobe Flash, Adobe Reader and Java here.
