FTC Accuses D-Link of Unsecure Routers and IP Cameras

The Federal Trade Commission has voiced concerns in US district court that D-Link products have put consumers’ privacy at risk.

In what amounts to a very public rebuke of a company, the US Government department has filed a complaint in a US district court against the Taiwan-based D-Link and its US subsidiary for ‘inadequate security in its routers and Internet Protocol cameras’.

The complaint filed on January 5th is part of the FTCs drive to ensure consumer protection in the Internet of Things which is expected to grow to many billions of devices by the year 2020.

This latest complaint filing is the lasted complaint to protect consumers’ privacy and security in the Internet of Things (IoT), follow previous filings which included filing by the agency against ASUS and TRENDnet.
