AV Comparatives July/August Mac Security Roundup

Apple Macintosh - no so immune to viruses after-all.The July and August roundup of Mac security products marks the first time (that we can remember) when respected Antivirus comparison laboratory AV-Comparatives has tested macinoths products.

Their linking rules prevent us from linking directly to the results, but here is the link to a page where you can get the PDF report of the comparative:

In the 38 page report you will find reviews of 8 antivirus systems for Macintosh, not least of which is ESET Cyber Security Pro.

It is important to note that the comparative test included a test of 65 recent Macintosh threats, plus 500 of the most prevalent windows threats. It is important for an antivirus to detect threats for platforms other than their own, not simply because the machine may be used to transmit those threats to others, but also because the number of dual-boot or virtualized machine environments has risen massively – a Macintosh may run windows either as an alternative bootup, or in a window using Parallels desktop or other virtualization tool.

Summary of the results

The bottom line, Macs need protection – choose one and use it!
